“The LORD said to Moses: “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out. When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.” (Numbers 10v1-3)
These two trumpets can be a picture of praise and worship. Psalm 150 tells us to “praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet!”. Silver in the Bible is a picture of salvation or redemption. Praise God that we have a salvation to praise Him for! Thank God for Jesus, our saviour, the forgiveness of sins, the guarantee of eternal life! If all God had ever done for us was to save us from our sins we would have reason to praise Him for eternity!
As I was studing the two trumpets what struck me was verses 9-10: “When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies. Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed feasts and New Moon festivals—you are to sound the trumpets”.
God told Israel to blow the trumpets on two occasions – when they went into battle and also at the times of feasting. I was struck by the strange contrast. A battle is often a time of fear, worry, panic, confusion and trouble. On the other hand, a feast is a time of rejoicing, of victory, joy and happiness. Yet on both occasions Israel was instructed to sound the trumpets. I believe this is a powerful Biblical truth – no matter what season we are going through – God is worthy of our praise!
The key to understand this principle is the following sentance “I am the LORD your God”. In good times and bad times God is still God! He never changes, He is always in control, His arm is always mighty to save! He is always good, always faithful. And He is “our” God! Whether we are in a battle this morning or in a time of rejoicing, The Lord is our God, and He is worthy of praise!
When God called Moses, Moses immediatly looked to himself and pointed out his own weaknesses and failings. God revealed Himself as I Am. He was saying “Moses, it’s not about you, it’s about the fact that I Am!” God would say to us all this day, that He is still I AM!
“I Am healing in your sickness. I Am strength in your weakness, I Am peace in your storm, I Am victory in your battle, I Am King over the flood, I Am provider of all your needs, I Am guidance in your confusion, I Am light in your darkness, I Am friend in your lonliness, I Am joy in your despair, I Am hope in this life and the next, I Am rest in your strife, I Am grace in your trial, I Am everlasting love, I Am ever faithful, I Am ever present and ever strong. I Am all you need. I Am worthy of all your praise!”
This day you may be in a battle. If so, sound the trumpet! Your praise is they key to your victory! You may be in a time of rejoicing this morning. If so, sound the trumpet! Thank and praise your God for what He’s done in your life. No matter what season, whether good or bad, God is worthy of our praise! Sound the trumpet this morning, lift up a joyful noise to your God! Join with heaven in singing “Worthy is the Lamb!”
