“I delight to do Your will, O my God” (Pslam 40v8)
For a Christian, doing the will of God should not be a chore or a struggle. Instead living a life that honours God should be something that we are delighted to do. Many Christians come to church downcast and miserable, watching the clock hoping that the service can soon be over so they can go home, knowing they have done their religious duty for the week. For the true lover of God however, the chance to come and praise Jesus should be their souls delight! It should be something we ache and long to do. The word “delight” means “to take great pleasure in”. The true lover of God finds no greater pleasure than praising and worshiping Jesus!
“Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in His salvation.” (Psalm 35v9). As you are reading this, can you cast your mind back to the day you were saved! How awesome is our salvation?! The fact that we are forgiven, set free, our names are written in the lambs book of life, we are friends and children of God! How amazing?! His salvation should be something we delight in, it should fill us with joy everytime we think about it!
“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61v10)
If as Christians, we can’t get excited, we can’t delight in our salvation, in what God has done for us, then there is something wrong!
“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37v4) Do you have a need this day? You may need a healing, you may need provision or a breakthrough in a circumstance or situation. The secret this day is to simply delight yourself in Jesus. Just enjoy God, enjoy His presence and He shall make sure that all our needs and met and all our desires fulfilled.
“I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.” (Song of Songs 2v3). A true lover of Jesus delights to sit in His shade, which is a picture of His presence. More than anything else we should love and enjoy the presence of Jesus.
“They feast in the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.” (Psalm 36v8). I love this scripture! God’s house is a place of abundance! It’s there that we find abundant life and abundant grace! Praise God that His river is a river of delights! All the wonderful blessings and treasures of God are found in His river! “There is a river which makes glad the city of our God!” That river is the Holy Spirit! Praise God we can soak in His river daily and enjoy all the delights of heaven!
“Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight.” (Psalm 43v4)
One famous preacher, often asks the question “How’s your temperature?” Hows your spiritual temperature this morning? Are you on fire for Jesus? Can you say this morning that Jesus is your joy? Is He your delight this morning? Do you take pleasure in praising Him, in sitting in His shade and enjoying His river? If not, ask the Holy Spirit to relight that fire within you, to restore unto you the joy of your salvation.
As we conclude let’s remember Jesus, the one who delighted to do God’s will, even though it meant dying a cruel death on the cross. He called the cross His passion. He called His passion His joy. Why? He saw us! His heart of love for us kept Him nailed to that cross. His love and obedience to the Father brought Him back from the grave and now He is over and above all things and reigns for ever! How can we not delight to worship our awesome Saviour?!
