Prayer And Our Words

When we pray, the words that we speak are very important and very powerful. The Bible says that there is life and death in the power of our tongue. When God created the universe, He didn’t think it into being, He spoke it. He said “let there be light” and what God said happend, there was light!

Man was created in the image and likeness of God. That means that in the redeemed of the Lord, there are the same characteristics and abilitys that God has! One of these is the ability to speak words of creative force and power. It’s interesting that the first thing that God does in the Bible is speak, and the first thing Adam does in the Bible is speak: “He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name”. Just as God said and it happened, as Adam spoke it happened!

In 1 Kings there is the story of Elijah praying for a dead boy to come back to life. If you study the Hebrew it says that as Elijah prayed he “called” he “named” “he dictated” “he preached”. Elijah didn’t just weep and cry and beg God to do something. He called life, he named life, he dictated and preached to death itself! And death obeyed!

When Elijah told Ahab that there be no more rain, he didn’t say “at Gods word”, he said “at MY word!” The truth is that when you are anointed by God, Gods word in your mouth is as powerful as it is in Gods mouth!

God said to Jermemiah ” Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth.  See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” He later told him “my word in your mouth is like a fire!” Jeremiah had the God-given ability to uproot and tear things down, to build and to plant things, purely by using his words, which were anointed with the fire of the Holy Ghost!

We see this worked out time and again in the ministry of Jesus – he spoke to a fig tree, he spoke to a storm, he spoke the word and the centurions servant was healed. Jesus is our example of how to pray – its not always about asking God to do things, it’s about us to speaking and declaring what we want to see change. Jesus taught us that we can speak to a mountain and it be removed. He told us we have the ability to bind and loose things on earth and those things will be bound and loosed in heaven.

The angel Michael said this to Daniel “Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them” Such was the power of Daniels words that God sent an angel in respone to those words.

Instead of asking God to do things, use your authority as a king and priest. Declare healing, declare salvation, declare revival, declare the kingdom of God into every situation you face. Bind darkness and loose light by the power He has given you! His word is like a fire in His mouth, and His word is like a fire in your mouth! What a wonderful redemption we have in Jesus, that He would allow us to share this ministry
